2012

Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen – two acclaimed musicians in their own right – form the Icelandic experimental techno duo Kiasmos. The design direction and iconic symbol developed by FELD represent the fusion of two musical styles across various media – from album artworks to stage design.

Project Phases:

Concept | Design | Production

Role:

Art Direction | Graphic Design | Media Production and Coordination

Following the spirit of true collaboration, Kiasmos explores the area between Ólafur’s acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’ synth-heavy electro pop.

Tasked with finding a visual language for this meeting of the musical minds, FELD developed an iconographic design that has become Kiasmos’ trademark. Timeless and instantly recognizable, it nevertheless evolves into something unique and new in different contexts and media.

First featured on the duo’s second EP THROWN in 2012, the iconic symbol – which also inspired the distinct Kiasmos typeface – has seen a number of variations in artwork, merchandise, posters and more.

In an ongoing process of renewal and reinvention, it has even transitioned into the physical world and has become an integral part of Kiasmos’ vast live performances.
