Erased Tapes

A Distinct Visual Language for a Pioneering Record Label

Erased Tapes

Berlin - London

London-based label Erased Tapes has established itself as a well-known home for avant-garde musicians from all over the world.

From its early beginnings, FELD has accompanied the label in developing a recognizable visual identity across digital and analog media – from its online presence to the art direction and design production of several anniversary box sets as well as individual releases.

Project Phases:

Just like the music it represents, the design language for Erased Tapes is focused on simplicity, clarity and minimalism. With scrupulous attention to detail and a strong dedication to handcrafted precision, the physical results are unique collector’s items that provide visual as well as haptic pleasure.

5-Year Anniversary Box Set “Erased Tapes Collection V”

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Erased Tapes wanted to produce something special for it’s fans. Containing songs by all 10 artists then signed to the label, “Erased Tapes Collection V” is limited to 500 copies and comes in a deluxe, hand-assembled outer box, emblazoned with a detailed debossing of the label’s logo. The box is made from heavyweight, high-quality card that has been dyed black and manually debossed and folded.

“Packaging is not so much a product as an opportunity to create an introduction to the artist’s mind, to the music’s soul. It’s like the first chapter in a book or the beginning of a film. It prepares you for the journey.”

Robert Raths, founder of Erased Tapes

10-Year Anniversary Box Set
“1 + 1 = X”

A collaborative recording of unreleased music from every single artist on the label’s roster, this anniversary 3-LP box set is housed in a bespoke, hand-assembled white cardboard box — with a recessed X — that slides open to one side. The box is accompanied by a 68-page book of black-and-white photographs that document the recording process and is limited to 1.000 copies worldwide.

Apart from also designing the Erased Tapes website, FELD has been a steady presence in the label’s universe by contributing the album artworks for many of its releases. A selection of the Erased Tapes musicians FELD has worked with over the years:
